Is It Possible to Have Breast Augmentation Without Scars?

Posted March 08, 2022 in Scarless Breast Augmentation

3 Minute Read:

Many women want bigger and fuller breasts. It’s for this reason that breast augmentation surgery was one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedures in 2020

In addition to the larger size and more aesthetic shape of the breasts, women desire an augmentation that will give their breasts a natural and sensual look and feel both in and out of their clothing.

Many common techniques used for breast augmentation procedures require surgical incisions on the actual breast. These incisions may leave noticeable scars (either around the areola or along the inframammary fold beneath the breast), taking away from the natural look that women want.

At Lo Plastic Surgery, Dr. Lo prefers to use a transaxillary incision — also known as the armpit cut — when performing breast augmentation surgery to give his patients all the benefits of breast augmentation without the tell-tale scars.

What Incision Methods Are Commonly Used for Breast Augmentation?

The three most common breast augmentation incisions are:

  • Inframammary incision: the incision is made in the crease (also known as the inframammary fold) underneath the breast, which results in a scar that is often visible when lifting your arms.
  • Periareolar incision: the incision is made around the areola, allowing for less visibility of scars than with an inframammary incision since the scars tend to be hidden in the edge of the areola; however, this is not always the case.
  • Transaxillary incision: the incision is made in the armpit, keeping the breast scar-free.

Why Is Transaxillary Incision Best?

While all three of the above incisions will allow breast implants to be placed and the breast size and shape to be augmented to a woman’s preference, the transaxillary/armpit incision, also known as “scarless” breast augmentation, is the only one that will allow the breasts to be free from scars.

With breast augmentation using a transaxillary incision, the implant (either a silicone implant or saline implant) will be inserted through an incision made in the armpit. Dr. Lo uses an endoscope (a thin tube with a camera at the end) to create a breast pocket and place the implant.

The incision in the armpit will be 1 to 1 1/2 inches length and will be hidden within the natural creases of the armpit so that no one will know that you had breast enhancement cosmetic surgery.

And this is important since the best plastic surgery should not be obvious and be performed with the fewest hidden scars.

Unlike with periareolar or inframammary incisions, your transaxillary incision will allow you to feel comfortable in your body. You won’t have to worry about feeling self-conscious about any scars on your breast especially in intimate situations as the well healed scar is hidden in your armpit. Instead, you will be able to feel confident with the look and feel of your new breast size and comfortable with your appearance in all situations.
